Katie Bouman, a 29 year old scientist led development of a computer programme that made the breakthrough image possible. This computer scientist has earned praise worldwide for helping develop the algorithm that created the first-ever image of a black hole. The remarkable picture showing a halo of dust 500 million trillion km from Earth was released on Wednesday, April 10.
She started making the algorithm three years ago when she was a MIT graduate. There, she led the project, assisted by a team from MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the MIT Haystack Observatory.
After the image, captured by Event horizon Telescope was released on the internet, Dr Bouman Became an international sensation and is receiving every bits of praise she deserves.
